Ferguson, Burnaby Mountain, and Earth at Risk

Earth at Risk This past weekend in San Francisco, an event called Earth at Risk: The Justice and Sustainability Conference was held. It brought together feminists, indigenous peoples, anti-war activists, anti-racists, and others. The event, headlined by Derrick Jensen, Vandana Shiva, Chris Hedges, and Alice Walker, united a disparate set of movements acting in solidarity with one another. Earth at Risk was a huge success. Deep Green Resistance was there, tabling in the lobby and represented by several people on the stage. This event may be the beginning of something big. Stay tuned. ...

From Unist’ot’en Camp: No Word for Good-Bye

This article is by Deep Green Resistance member William Falk of San Diego. Leaving Unist’ot’en Camp was hard. As I stepped away from a group of new friends passing pens and notebooks around to share contact information, I found myself on the banks of the Morice River under the pines. Looking up to see their silver and green tops swaying with the sky, I wondered if the pines were discussing the worth of my actions at the Camp. I rubbed the black bruise under my left thumbnail where I missed a nail with my hammer. My shoulders were sore from holding heavy roof rafters precisely in place so they could be installed properly. ...

That’s not an accident: the rules of social change have been clearly defined by those in power. Either you play by the rules — rules which don’t allow you to win — or you break free of the rules, and face the consequences. ...

Report-back: DGR Tour of the Philippines

Earlier this year, DGR member Kim Hill of Australia traveled to the Philippines. DGR’s presence was requested by community organizers from an anarchist collective called the Mobile Anarchist School. Here is her report back: ‘NO TO MINING.’ Signs bearing these words are common on Marinduque. The signs are nailed to trees, on fences and shelters, and the slogan is painted in large letters on the front wall of a school. ...
