Corporate Agent PicRights Sends “Cease-and-Desist” Letter to Creators of Nissan Leaf Electric Car Greenwashing ExposĂ©

In March 2014, a volunteer for Deep Green Resistance created a photo collage titled “Greenwashing & False Solutions.” The image showed an array of solar panels, a landscape dotted with wind turbines, and a Nissan Leaf electric car on a showroom floor, and was made using photographs found on the internet. The collage was superimposed with text reading “A ‘greener’ industrialism (if such a thing is even possible) will not save the world. Green capitalism is an illusion.” The collage was made for printing as a poster and sharing online, and meant to convey the Deep Green perspective that so-called “green technology” is not effective at stopping the destruction of the planet. ...

Photo Essay: "Bright Green Lies" — Wind Energy Kills Birds, Bats, and the Future

Have you ever been to a so-called “green” energy generation facility? Recently several members of Deep Green Resistance visited the Spring Valley Wind Project, a set of 66 turbines, each nearly 400 feet tall and rated to produce 2.3 MW of power. This set of wind turbines in Spring Valley, NV has destroyed the land around their bases, brought in aggressive invasive species such as cheatgrass (the BLM’s idea of “restoration”), and we even found a dead hawk or owl at the base of the very first turbine we visited. ...

Park City is Damned: A Case Study in Civilization

March 24th, 2017 — The San Diego Free Press A Note to My Readers: It has not been easy to write this essay and I am scared to see my name displayed publicly next to what follows. I am sure these ideas will win me few friends in Park City and the broader ski community. Nevertheless, what follows is the truth as it has been shown to me. My allegiance belongs, first and foremost, to life, to the land, to both the human and non-human victims of the insanity of the dominant system. I love to ski. I love to walk the aspen groves in the Wasatch Mountains above Park City. I love seeing moose cross Park Avenue almost weekly. In short, I love living here. But my desire to live here should not trump the land’s ability to survive. By Will Falk ...

Open Letter to Reclaim Environmentalism

Once, the environmental movement was about protecting the natural world from the insatiable demands of this extractive culture. Some of the movement still is: around the world grassroots activists and their organizations are fighting desperately to save this or that creature they love, this or that plant or fungi, this or that wild place. Contrast this to what some activists are calling the conservation-industrial complex–big green organizations, huge “environmental” foundations, neo-environmentalists, some academics–which has co-opted too much of the movement into “sustainability,” with that word being devalued to mean “keeping this culture going as long as possible.” Instead of fighting to protect our one and only home, they are trying to “sustain” the very culture that is killing the planet. And they are often quite explicit about their priorities. ...

The False Solutions of Green Energy

Two passionate environmentalists discuss the merits and issues of “Alternative Energy” technologies. They argue that it is not the path to a secure and sustainable future, that it threatens human rights, and that it is the wrong path for morally-conscious environmentalists. Topics discussed include the alternative energy industry, community-scale implementation, environmental complications of alternative technologies, and more. This talk was given at PIELC (Public Interest Environmental Law Conference) in 2014 in Eugene, OR. ...

Deep Green Resistance Book Excerpt

“A black tern weighs barely two ounces. On bodily reserves less than a bag of M&Ms and wings that stretch to cover twelve inches, she’ll fly thousands of miles, searching for the wetlands that will harbor her young. And every year the journey gets longer as the wetlands are desiccated for human demands.” Read the full excerpt from Chapter 1 of the book Deep Green Resistance: Strategy to Save the Planet. ...
