Join DGR Great Basin on January 31st for film showing and discussion:

After 50 years and $700 billion in oil sucked out of the ground by Royal Dutch Shell and Chevron, the Niger Delta is among the most polluted places on Earth.

As these multinational corporations pocket billions and corrupt government officials funnel off wealth, the 20 million indigenous people of the Delta are losing their subsistence livelihoods to the pollution caused by the oil business.

For 25 years, the people of the delta participated in a non-violent struggle for justice – and now the stakes have risen even higher.

Join us for a showing of the film “Sweet Crude” on Thursday, January 31st at 6pm, at the Salt Lake City Public Library (210 E 400 S) in Conference Room A (downstairs from the main foyer).

The film will be followed by a group discussion about the oil politics of the Niger delta, connections to the United States, and community organizing to confront environmental and social injustices.
